Who We Are

Decisions in Care, LLC was founded in 2001 by Susan Stuart, a life-long New Mexico resident, on the premise that New Mexico's elders deserve the highest quality representation as they deal with the increasingly complex world of government and private sector agencies. Our emphasis is on assisting consumers to maintain their independence, advocate for quality services, and promote maximum quality of life.

Susan Stuart Care Manager
Bachelor of University Studies | Care Manager Certified | National Master Guardian

Susan has over twenty-seven years of experience in the field of geriatrics and holds a bachelor's degree with a concentration in gerontology. She is a nationally certified long-term care manager and a nationally certified master guardian. Susan was a founding member of the New Mexico Guardianship Association and is a current member of the National Guardianship Association, the Aging Life Care Association™ and the New Mexico Estate Planning Council. She has served as a volunteer for many professional organizations which are focused on improving the lives of the elderly and disabled. She presents on a variety of topics affecting the elderly and disabled population in the community. Susan also has experience as a family caregiver.

Robert Padilla Care Manager
Licensed Master Social Worker | Care Manager Certified | National Certified Guardian

Robert is a licensed master level social worker with over thirty-three years of experience working with the disabled and elderly populations. He was employed in state government with adult protective services and the disabled and elderly (D & E) Medicaid waiver program. He has experience in geriatric psychiatric services, hospice and home healthcare. Robert is a nationally certified guardian. He is also a member of the National Guardianship Association and has experience serving as guardian and caregiver for a family member.

Jason Halvaei Care Manager
Licensed Master Social Worker | Care Manager Certified | National Certified Guardian

Jason is a licensed master level social worker and has been working in the field of human services since 2008. He is a nationally certified long-term care manager, a nationally certified guardian, and an Aging Life Care Professional™ with the Aging Life Care Association™. Jason has expertise working with individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia and other cognitive deficits. He is an excellent advocate and works well in challenging situations. He is also a member of the New Mexico Guardianship Association and the National Guardianship Association.

Lucy Romero Care Manager
Bachelor of Arts

Lucy, a native New Mexican, received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico in sociology and human services. She has worked in social services for over 15 years. She is experienced in adult day services, senior activities, hospice, dementia care and long-term care. Lucy is dedicated to providing support to seniors and their families.
